The Art of Being a Work in Progress

When you visit my website, you see the title of one my books, Under Construction: A Work in Progress. For many, that phrase signals something unfinished, maybe something incomplete. But for me, it is the most honest and hopeful title I could ever write.

Because just like a grand structure takes time, planning, and resilience, so too do we. We are all beautifully, messily, triumphantly, a work in progress.

The Crucial Foundation: Faith

In life, as in writing, we hit walls. We face moments where the path forward is unclear, where doubt creeps in, and where quitting seems easier than continuing.

Just like a physical construction project, everything we endeavour to build in our lives, be it a career, a relationship, or a personal goal, depends entirely on the strength of its foundation. Without a solid base, the structure is destined to crumble under pressure.

This brings us to the most vital element of enduring any challenge: Faith.

The Bible defines faith in Hebrews 11:1 as:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

This is the rock upon which we stand when the world feels like shifting sand. When we choose to build our lives on this unchanging promise, we are choosing the strongest foundation available: The Ancient of Days, The Rock of Ages. This divine strength is what allows us to withstand any storm, overcome any setback, and ultimately finish the project, the life and destiny, we have been given.

The Power in Perseverance

When we feel like we have failed or that our story is not going to plan, we are simply in the “Under Construction” phase. This is the period of quiet growth, of learning the importance of obedience, integrity, and unity. These are the qualities that allow us to keep building, even when we can not see the final structure being placed.

My goal as an author is to infuse hope into every narrative, reminding you that your story, built on the solid foundation of faith, is always worth finishing.

My Challenge to You: Embrace the Build

You may be building a business, a relationship, a new habit, or perhaps, you are simply trying to write the next chapter of your own life. Whatever your project, it will require perseverance. It will demand that you embrace the process, the flaws, the unexpected setbacks, and the moments of pure revelation.

So, the next time you feel discouraged, remember the “Under Construction” sign. It does not mean “Abandoned.” It means that you are safely standing on a solid foundation where:

  • Learning is Happening.
  • Progress is Being Made.
  • The Final Structure Will Be Stronger.

Keep building your story. I cannot wait to read it.
