Guarding Your Gift: Remaining Diligent Against the Voices of Doubt
Have you ever felt like you weren’t doing enough? Have you ever looked at your work and
felt inadequate, or perhaps even unqualified to continue the very task you were once certain you were called to do? This post iis about Guarding Your Gift and Remaining Diligent Against the Voices of Doubt.
As a writer, these moments are common. They often arrive through a stray comment from a critic, a lack of support from those around us, or the heavy weight of self-doubt. As a self-published author, I will be the first to tell you that setbacks occur. I have projects that are currently collecting dust, not because I lost my ability to write, but because I allowed
negative voices to speak into my life.
To remain diligent, we must have a foundation built on the Word of God. It is only through
His truth that we can differentiate between a friend and a “destiny destroyer.”

The First Distraction: Lessons from Eden
The struggle to remain diligent in our truth is as old as time. In Genesis 3, we see the ultimate example of how the enemy works to derail a destiny. The enemy manipulated Eve by leading her to question the truth she already knew. In Genesis 3:5, he appealed to her ego, promising that she would “be like God.” This is a classic tactic used by destiny destroyers, those who want to see you fail: the promise of a shortcut. But here is the truth: Eve was already made in the Imago Dei – the Image of God.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV): “So, God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he
created them; male and female he created them.”
She already shared His essence (God), but by listening to a voice that distorted her reality, she and Adam were cut off from their source of strength (Genesis 3:23-24). When we listen to the wrong voices, we prematurely abort the work God has placed in us.
Choosing Your Company Wisely
Diligence is not just about working hard; it is about guarding who has access to your ears and your heart. The Bible gives us clear warnings:
– 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.'”
– Proverbs 13:20: “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of
fools will suffer harm.”
If someone’s opinion does not align with what you already know about you, what God has
impressed in your heart and what God says about you (this can be found in his word, the
Bible), you must be conscious of whether you take that advice or discard it. Silence and
observation are your greatest tools. Watch people’s actions; they speak louder than words.
When someone shows you, they are a “foe” to your destiny, believe them the first time.
The Roadmap to Diligence
Remaining diligent in your assignment, whether it is finishing your book or pursuing your
vocation does require the right attitude and a successful mindset. Here is how to stay the
course:
- Embrace Constant Effort: Big achievements are built from small, daily actions.
Every sentence you write today accumulates into a legacy tomorrow. - Stay Attentive: Keep your desired goal in front of you. Focus on the results you want
to yield, not the obstacles in your path. - Practice Persistence: The best decision you can make is to simply not quit. Others
will benefit from the completion of your work, don’t let them down. - Remain Vigilant: Expect challenges. Have a “contingency plan” in place, a prayer, a
scripture, or a trusted mentor, to help you navigate setbacks without stopping your
progress. - Know Your “Why”: Why did you start this journey? When you are passionate about
your purpose, you develop a courage that cannot be deterred by the fears of others.
Conclusion: Trust the Rock
If you lack confidence in yourself, lean on your Rock. If you feel inadequate, remember that your qualifications come from the One who created you in His image. Diligence is an act of worship. It is a way of saying, “Lord, I trust the gift You gave me, and I refuse to let the world’s noise drown out Your voice.” Stop making excuses, stop listening to the “unfriendly friends,” and get back to the work you were born to do. The achievement will be worth it all. Your legacy is waiting.
